A tribute to my grandpa on what would have been his 101st birthday

  1. What a touching tribute! I believe your grandfather and my Dad would have gotten along famously as they shared some of the same passions: fishing, sports, and church activities.

I was particularly touched by the reaction to liberating the Nazi death camps. Thirteen years ago, I read a book on this very subject – The Liberators: America’s Witness to the Holocaust by Michael Hirsh. I can well understand how this experience haunted your beloved grandfather.

I’m glad you were close to him, and made peace with some of the differences between you.
